Retooling for an Aging America

The Institute of Medicine’s (IOM’s) Committee on the Future Health Care Workforce for Older Americans was formed in 2007 to probe the challenges facing the US health care system as the baby boom generation approaches retirement. The committee has recently released a report entitled Retooling for an Aging America: Building the Health Care Workforce. The report is described as a "call for fundamental reform in the way the workforce is trained and used to care for older adults" , and makes recommendations on enhancing geriatric competence, increasing recruitment and retention, and improving models of care.

The report brief is available at: http://www.iom.edu/Object.File/Master/53/507/HealthcareWorkforce_RB.pdf. A pre-publication copy of the full report is available to download at: http://www.nap.edu/catalog/12089.html.
